Device42 is not an IT service management or ticketing system like ServiceNow. Instead, Device42 offers out-of-the-box integration with ITSM tools such ServiceNow, JSM, Freshworks and others. Our customers use the deep and wide discovery and analytics engine of Device42 to enrich and enhance their ITSM products. Additionally, Device42 offers a lower price and time to value, as well as Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM), not available in most ITSM products. 

BMC

BMC Discovery automatically discovers your IT inventory and the details around it, including “software, hardware, network, storage, and versions.” However, when customers choose Device42, it is primarily because Device42 focuses on providing complete and accurate discovery, identifying all the details about what you have running in your environment today, and clearly highlighting the interdependencies. BMC offers its capabilities across a number of different products that have to be used together. In contrast, Device42 is fully integrated with no standalone modules. Device42 is truly a one-stop single source of truth because it includes a fully integrated suite of enterprise IT inventory, dependency mapping and DCIM capabilities.

Nlyte

Nlye is a very good Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) product and the solutions is purely focused on that. Customers who choose Device42 get most of Nlyte’s capabilities, plus numerous other benefits, at 20% of the cost. Additional benefits from Device42 include powerful insights+ reporting and dashboards, integrated application dependency mapping, cloud discovery, as well as legacy technologies discovery and visibility, and more.

Sunbird

Sunbird is purely a DCIM solution, and all of its capabilities are focused on gathering data on physical infrastructure such as power, facilities, and other environmental resources. Device42 provides a full discovery platform for all things IT, including the agentless discovery of all key resources such as servers, applications, network elements, cloud resources, and more. Additionally, Device42 provides the insights and analytics to help organizations make key business decisions beyond just environmental resources.

Lansweeper

Lansweeper is primarily focused on IT Asset Management (ITAM) with agentless discovery, and agent based scanning. Their ITAM capability provides basic discovery. It is less focused on data centers and doesn’t provide capabilities specific to Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM), such as room, rack, cabling etc.

The main difference is Lansweeper cannot provide the breadth and depth of discovery that covers legacy technologies as well as the latest cloud technologies and showing hybrid cloud interdependencies. They do not provide full application level visibility needed into today’s complex IT environments. Full visibility of the lifecycle of IT resources is where Device42 shines.
